MJZ Studio × Sunday Hobby – The First Emperor: Ying Zheng / Qin Shi Huang 1/100 – Model Kit

The First Emperor – Ying Zheng / Qin Shi Huang is a spectacular reinterpretation of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China, transformed into a gigantic imperial mech.

This ambitious model kit, a collaboration between MJZ Studio and Sunday Hobby, blends elements of ancient China, ceremonial armor, mythology, and contemporary mechanical design to create a completely original and unconventional piece.

👑 The First Emperor

Ying Zheng, historically known as Qin Shi Huang, was the ruler who unified the warring states and in 221 BC became the first emperor of a unified China.

MJZ Studio takes this historical figure as inspiration and completely transforms him: here the emperor appears as an imposing mechanical warrior approximately 25 cm tall, at 1/100 scale.

The armor incorporates numerous elements inspired by Chinese imperial iconography, creating a spectacular combination of history, fantasy, and science fiction.

🐉 A Dragon over a Meter Long

But if the imperial mech is already impressive, the true star of the set is its gigantic articulated dragon.

Once assembled, it reaches approximately 110 cm in length, making it a true centerpiece for any collection.

The dragon can be configured with two different head and limb styles, allowing its appearance to be modified and different compositions to be created with the mech.

The set also includes several stands to position the dragon in different poses and create a dynamic presentation.

⚔️ Symbols of Imperial Power

The equipment is full of references to Chinese history and mythology.

Among the accessories, we find:

  • Sword of the King of Qin.
  • Yuxi, the imperial seal.
  • Bamboo tablets.
  • Xuanniao / Black Bird, the spectacular backpack.
  • Base inspired by the Great Wall of China.
  • Base inspired by the Qin Palace.
  • Specific stands for the dragon.

Each element helps to reinforce the concept of an emperor transformed into a war machine.

🦾 Next-Level Construction

This is a considerably more complex kit than a conventional model kit.

The main body incorporates a pre-assembled internal skeleton, made using metal alloy and POM, providing a solid structure on which to build the rest of the mech.

The kit contains approximately 1,700 parts distributed across 81 runners, not counting the internal skeleton itself.

The result is a particularly attractive project for modelers who enjoy large, complex kits with an enormous amount of detail.

🏯 A Base Worthy of an Emperor

Presentation is also a fundamental part of the concept.

The set includes different display elements inspired by imperial Chinese architecture, including a base that evokes the Great Wall and another inspired by the Qin Palace.

Combined with the dragon stands, they allow for the creation of an authentic exhibition scene around the mech.

💧 Water-slide Decals

To complete the finish, water-slide decals are included, ideal for adding small details and markings on the different surfaces of the model.

This allows the finish to be taken even further using modeling techniques such as panel lining, painting, weathering, and aging.

🐉 History, Mythology, and Mech

The most special thing about The First Emperor is that it doesn't try to historically reproduce Qin Shi Huang, but rather to create a completely original fantastic reinterpretation.

The imperial sword, the Yuxi seal, the black bird, the dragon, and the architectural references are transformed into elements of a monumental mech universe.

The result is a kit designed for those looking for something different: a gigantic, complex piece packed with details that combines Chinese culture, fantasy, and science fiction on a spectacular scale.

The First Emperor has returned. This time, he doesn't need a terracotta army. He has a 110-centimeter dragon.
